For this week's Rumors Video Roundup, we have our usual assortment of high-horse machinery, but a sprinkling of more mundane transportation as well. From a skydiver attempting to land in a Volkswagen Beetle Convertible, Ken Block having fun in a Fiesta ST in Budapest, a Nissan GT-R setting an ice speed record in Russia, and Hot Rod's 65th-Anniversary commemoration bringing together feature cars over the past six decades of the magazine.
We also have a preview trailer of the new Formula One movie Rush, a high-speed police bike chase in rural Alabama, and two Ferrari F50s playing tug-of-war. Watch them all below!
The Russians have made dashcam videos famous, but even before our comrades created the video meme, police departments in the U.S. started employing video cameras on its patrol vehicles and officers to protect themselves, as well as citizens from abuses and false accusations. Today, we get a perspective of a rural high-speed chase from the vantage point of the officer. Of the three videos on the Florence, Alabama Police Department YouTube channel, this one is the runaway hit with over 2 million views since it was posted last week.
America’s love affair with the car goes back many years, and few publications are a better example of this than Hot Rod magazine. With a history that goes back to just after World War II, Hot Rod has featured hundreds, if not thousands of custom performance cars over the years. But rather than just sit back and wistfully recall its past glories, Hot Rod keeps its readers and fans actively involved with multiple events throughout the year.
What would you do if you had some cameras and access to two Ferrari F50s? If you run the YouTube channel Tax the Rich, there’s only one acceptable answer: tug of war.
The Ford Fiesta ST may have a smaller stature and fewer horsepower than its bigger brother, the Focus ST. No worries: rally star Ken Block borrowed a closed ice rink in Budapest to show that the Fiesta ST is probably no less fun to drive, and we’ve got the video to prove it.
The Texas Mile is infamous by now: it’s a yearly tribute to acceleration and crazy top-speed numbers. This year, Motor Trend‘s Jessi Lang strapped on a helmet and took a Hennessey Performance-tuned Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 down the runway as fast as she could.
We can’t quite put our finger on it, but something about the Opel Adam R2 rally car warms our heart. Maybe it’s that guano-eating grin. Maybe it’s the paint scheme, inspired by the wicked Manta 400 rally cars of yesteryear. Maybe it’s the hearty, turbocharged growl it makes when sliding through corners.
AMG Black Series cars are above and beyond the already potent AMG models and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series may be the highest-performing model yet. In this Feature Flick, Motor Trend’s Frank Markus laps the SLS AMG Black Series and SLS AMG Electric Drive at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France.
Using doors is so ordinary and boring. As this video shows, the coolest way to enter a 2013 Volkswagen Beetle convertible is by skydiving and landing on the passenger seat.
Here’s something that shouldn’t surprise you: it’s not hard to exceed 100 mph in the Nissan GT-R. With 540 hp from a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine, a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, and an electronically controlled all-wheel drive system, the car defines the word “fast.” Today’s feature flick has a GT-R hitting 183 mph, but Nissan made things more difficult by doing the entire test on ice.
The first trailer for Rush, the upcoming fact-based epic about Forumla 1 in the 1970s, is now available online. The clip features plenty of vintage race cars used for filming, as well as the sound of those cars racing on classic Grand Prix circuits.
