The Jaguar F-Type coupe's arrival can't come soon enough, and it appears the automaker may try to position it as a more expensive roadster-alternative. Instead of carrying a base price lower than the drop-top, Drive suggests the F-Type coupe may actually cost more than the roadster.
The F-Type roadster starts at $69,895 for the model equipped with the 340-hp 3.0-liter supercharged V-6. Other models include the F-Type S with a 380-hp 3.0-liter V-6, and the F-Type V-8 S with a 495-hp 5.0-liter V-8. All three engine options are paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic, and the coupe should feature these same powertrains, but with a heftier price tag. After all, the coupe may be more driver-focused since a fixed roof should improve structural rigidity. With the Project 7 Speedster concept, we’ve seen Jaguar is interested in stuffing the XKR-S’ 550-hp V-8 under the hood of the F-Type — and a coupe could be the first to get such a performance model.
Porsche is already familiar with this idea, as the base Boxster is about $2000 more affordable than the Cayman. Both are powered by the same 2.7-liter flat-six, however, the base Cayman has 10 horses and 7 lb-ft more torque stuffed underneath its hood. We’ll have to wait until the coupe goes on sale next year to hear more details, but before then, we may see it without the camouflage at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
Should Jaguar price the F-Type coupe higher than the F-Type roadster?
