Rumored: Ford Expedition to Retain V-8 Power, Navigator Going EcoBoost V-6

The Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator full-size SUVs may not go another generation using identical powertrains, a new Motor Trend report suggests. While the next Lincoln Navigator is expected to replace its old V-8 with an EcoBoost V-6, the upcoming Ford Expedition will reportedly continue offering a V-8 along with a standard V-6.

Citing Lincoln's global director, Matt VanDyke, Motor Trend again confirms that the Navigator will exclusively use V-6 power, as Lincoln is moving away from V-8s. While the 3.7-liter V-6 making just over 300 hp is a possible base engine, we'd be surprised if Lincoln doesn't simply make a version of the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 standard. In the 2013 Ford Explorer Sport, the engine produces 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque, compared to the current Navigator V-8's 310 hp and 365 lb-ft. With a twin-turbo V-6 under the Navigator's hood, the 0-60 mph time should remain in the mid-6-second range.

While there's a chance the next Ford Expedition will offer the EcoBoost V-6, that SUV could also make use of the automaker's 5.0-liter V-8, with around 360 hp and 380 lb-ft. The Expedition and Navigator could both use some serious updates, and we're eager to see what Ford has in store.

.@deepak1538 hopefully we will see a larger Ecoboost engine in the near future for even more power and fuel savings
@deepak1538 Glad to see your loving your Explorer! Have you driven the 3.5L Ecoboost Engine? It makes the 5.4L feel unresponsive
@Maclin_Ford I've never tried the Exoboost. But what I hear from you if it's true, then I'd love to give it a shot.
