We’ve heard many Ford officials promise a full-fledged transformation for its oft-maligned Lincoln brand, but just when will we see that supposed renaissance start to blossom? Sooner than later, it seems; perhaps even by the end of the year.

Sources within Ford’s headquarters tell us the revisions, starting with some cosmetic overhauls of existing products, will likely occur for the 2012 model year. We’re told a refreshed form of the MKS sedan -- which is now four years old, roughly the perfect age for a mid-cycle update -- will debut by the end of 2011, perhaps at the Los Angeles auto show. Judging by the number of camouflaged MKT prototypes we’ve recently spotted around the metropolitan Detroit area, we wouldn’t be surprised if Lincoln’s large people mover is also due for a makeover in the same time frame.
But we’re most interested in what’s in store for Lincoln’s MKZ. We hear an all-new model will likely hit showrooms in 2013, but a spiffed-up variant will be shown as a concept car early next year. As has been previously reported, the MKZ -- like its Ford Fusion sibling -- will share its platform with the next-generation European Mondeo, but the Lincoln variant will look vastly different than any of its siblings. If so, consider that a far cry from the current car.
Lincoln representatives declined to comment on the matter, but did hint that the MKS and MKZ “have been on the market for a while.” Here’s hoping that’s a sign a brand-wide reinvention is just around the corner.
