Report: Red Bull F1 Team Could Help Craft High-Performance Infinitis

Infiniti's partnership with Red Bull Racing was long rumored to extend past simply an F1 sponsorship Many suggested the automaker could help engineer advanced systems for the team, but in actuality, it appears the inverse may be true. Autocar suggests Red Bull may well be helping give future Infiniti sport models -- erm, wings.

The magazine says that Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner said that he wants to use his company's expertise outside of the realm of Formula 1. “Red Bull used to be known only as an energy drink company, but now it is recognized as an engineering team. It’s a natural evolution for us to get involved in road car engineering.” With a Formula 1 Constructors Championship under its belt and a current first-place standing in the 2011 F1 season, we don't blame the company for looking to see if its expertise can be used off the track -- and perhaps in future Infinitis.

We're hoping a joint Red Bull-Infiniti effort would be a little more substantial than vehicles like the  likely be similar to the Renault Clio Williams -- a hot hatch developed by RenaultSport in the 1990s and merely branded with WilliamsF1 logos. There’s still no official word on which Infiniti model Red Bull Racing could get their hands on, but the likely -- nay, obvious -- choice is the Infiniti G37, and perhaps even the IPL G Coupe. In Europe, where Infiniti is still trying to gain a foothold, the 348-hp IPL G Coupe may be a bit too mild for Europeans spoiled by the wild offerings from Mercedes-Benz’s AMG or BMW’s M divisions. A Red Bull-Infiniti road car could perhaps pack a little more power, a little stiffer spring rates, and other associated upgrades.

Do you think a joint Red Bull-Infiniti offering is a good idea? Which Infiniti model should RBR target first? Send us your thoughts in the space below.
