Jaguar will soon be bringing a BMW 3 Series fighter to market, and we already know that this compact sport sedan will be called the Jaguar XS. Now, a report from Autocar claims that the design for this vehicle has been finalized and will debut in concept form at the 2014 Paris auto show next October.
Autocar cites Jaguar design director Ian Callum as saying that the design of the Jaguar XS is finished. Reportedly, this smaller sedan will follow Jaguar’s current styling direction as established by the XF and XJ sedans, confirming what we have seen in various spy shots of XS prototypes. The Jaguar XS will ride on a new platform codenamed X760 and will gain a wagon variant at some point in the future. This chassis is also expected to underpin a future Jaguar crossover previewed by the C-X17 concept shown at the 2013 Frankfurt auto show.
We’ve previously reported that this small sedan will be an important model for Jaguar, as the brand is hoping to spur sales with this new vehicle. Despite increasing sales this year, Jaguar has still only sold 15,408 cars in the U.S. so far in 2013, compared with Mercedes-Benz’s 298,498 units sold and Audi’s 141,048 units sold.
Look for a concept version of the Jaguar XS to debut in Paris late next year, with the car’s official production debut at the 2015 Geneva auto show in the spring of 2015. Jaguar has previously confirmed to us that the Jaguar XS will arrive in the U.S. by 2016.
