Reports suggest Jaguar will announce plans for a new wagon, crossover, and compact sedan at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. The new cars would help increase Jaguar's mass-market appeal as the British luxury marque attempts to grow sales worldwide.

The trio of new Jaguar cars is said to go on sale by the second half of 2015, and they will use lightweight aluminum construction. Reuters reports that existing Land Rover production facilities in the U.K. will be modified to assemble the Jaguar models. At the Geneva Motor Show, Jaguar Land Rover said it would invest £2.75 billion (about $4.2 billion) for future products, and that it would introduce eight new or refreshed vehicles this year -- including both Jaguar and Land Rover models.

Plans for a so-called baby Jaguar have been in the works for some time. We previously spied a prototype of the car (pictured). It may be called the Jaguar XS, and will be positioned to fight the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. It is codenamed X760 and is expected to debut as a sedan in 2015 before spawning a crossover variant in 2016. Automotive News also reports that Jaguar will sell a station wagon version of the car. Based on the dismal response to the Jaguar X-Type Wagon in the U.S. market, don't expect that model to come here; Jaguar also has not brought the XF Sportbrake to our shores.

Through the first half of this year, Jaguar Land Rover global sales are up 14 percent, and Jaguar alone posted a 29-percent year-over-year sales gain versus the first six months of 2012. However, the luxury brand's sales are still small compared to its German and Japanese rivals, at just 37,636 sales globally so far this year. (Over the same period, Audi sold 74,277 cars in the U.S. alone.) Adding a new entry-level sedan, wagon, and crossover could broaden Jaguar's appeal and help it lure in new customers.
