Despite only just officially showing the 2013 Porsche Boxster S at the Geneva Motor Show this month, Porsche has already put its new roadster through its paces on the Nürburgring. The results? According to Autoblog.nl, an admirably quick seven minutes, 58 seconds.

The Boxster S' 7:58 time may not be fast enough to play with the super-quick times of Gumpert Apollo (7:24) or the Porsche Carrera GT (7:32), but is quick enough to best the likes of the C6 Chevrolet Corvette, Cadillac CTS-V, and Dodge Viper SRT-10 – all of which clocked in a second slower than the new Porsche. However, Porschephiles need not fret: while the 2013 Boxster S may be quicker than before, it still trails the new 991-generation 2012 911 by 19 seconds. Previously, the Porsche Boxster S made the lap around Germany's famed Nürburgring in 8:10. When we spoke to Porsche, officials confirmed that they had taken the car and clocked in the 7:58 time, but didn't say whether or not the car was on stock tires.

Porsche was able to achieve the faster lap time thanks to a wider track and the automaker's new torque-vectoring system, despite only marginal power gains. Porsche's 2013 Boxster S is powered by the same mid-mounted 3.4-liter flat-six that powered the previous generation car, but has gained a 5-hp power bump to 315 hp.

The new 'Ring time was announced during a presentation by Porsche before driving the 2013 Boxster earlier this month, although they provided no further details about the run. Luckily, Twitter user hanniesteeman snapped a picture from the lap time declaration.

The Dodge Viper SRT 10 ACR holds the Ring Record at 7 minutes 12 seconds and 13 hundredths of a second. The above writer needs to check his facts before releasing his work.
