Recalls are being issued for a number of vehicles including the new Toyota Prius V, 2012 Toyota Tacoma, and Cam-Am Spyder as well as various BMWs and Rolls-Royce models using V-8 and V-12 engines.
2012 Toyota Prius VThe Problem: Weakened actuators in the Prius V's exhaust-heat recovery system can cause engine coolants in the Prius V to leak, causing the hybrid's warning light to turn, making the car run in safe mode.
The Fix: Toyota will replace the actuators free of charge.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: About 20,000 units.
2012 Toyota TacomaThe Problem: Gulf States Toyota (GST) is recalling certain 2012 Toyota Tacoma trucks because of incorrect tire and loading information placards. The spare tire size and cold inflation pressure information labeled on the placards aren’t accurate, which could result in improper spare tire use or replacement.
The Fix: GST will send out correct placards to owners for free starting this month. Gulf States Toyota can also be reached at 1-713-744-3465.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 672 units.
BMWA transmission control problem in the BMW 7 Series has been linked to 16 crashes and five injuries. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating nearly 122,000 2002-2008 BMW 7 Series last August because the cars may show they're in park when they're actually in neutral. This can cause the sedans to unexpectedly roll away.
Also, there is a recall on the 2011 BMW 5 Series, 2012 BMW 6 Series and 7 Series, and the 2012 BMW X5 and X6 with V-8 and V-12 engines.
The Problem: Certain vehicles equipped with turbocharged V-8 or V-12 engines could overheat because of a problem with the circuit board for the auxiliary water pump. This could cause the pump or engine compartment to smolder and, in some cases, a vehicle fire.
The Fix: BMW will replace the auxiliary water pump for free, and owners will begin being notified this month. BMW can also be reached at 1-800-525-7417.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 2846
2010-2011 Rolls-Royce GhostThe Problem: Certain V-8 and V-12 equipped Rolls-Royce Ghost models are at risk of going up in smoke because the circuit board for the electrical auxiliary water pump could overheat.
The Fix: Rolls-Royce will begin notifying owners this month, and will replace auxiliary water pump for free. Rolls-Royce can also be reached at 1-877-877-3735
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 69 units.
2010 Can-Am Spyder RTThe Problem: Bombardier Motor Corp. is issuing a recall on the Can-Am Spyder RT because in some cases, brakes may not work at all because a pin securing the brake pedal connecting rod could fall off, resulting in complete brake failure.
The Fix: The company will begin notifying owners today, and replace connecting rod pins on affected vehicles for free. Bombardier can be reached at 1-888-638-5397.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 3259 units.
