The latest recall news concerns Toyota, General Motors, and Ford vehicles.

Toyota is recalling Corolla sedans and Matrix hatchbacks produced from 2005 to 2008; GM is also recalling Pontiac Vibe models produced over the same period. Ford is recalling Windstar minivans produced from 1998 to 2003.

2005 to 2008 Toyota Corolla/Matrix and Pontiac Vibe

The problem: We reported back in March about complaints of engine stalling in Toyota's Corolla sedan and Matrix hatchback. Toyota cites improperly constructed engine control modules, which have the potential to shut the engine down while in motion, or prevent the vehicle from starting.

The fix: Toyota will send replacement ECMs to owners of affected vehicles. Owners who previously paid to fix their ECMs may be eligible for reimbursement.

Number affected: 1.1 million Corolla/Matrix models, 200,000 Vibe models

1998 to 2003 Ford Windstar

The problem: Following over 200 complaints of broken rear axles on its Windstar minivans, Ford will address the problem as a voluntary recall. In May, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation into the rear axles, as well as the front subframe. The axle problems were blamed on road salt erosion, as well as the possibility that the U-frame design collapsing and breaking while the vehicle is in motion.

The fix: Ford will pay for the repair of the rear axle.

Number affected: 575,000
