Defective airbags that could improperly deploy are the cause of a Honda recall affecting 7480,000 Pilots SUVs and Odyssey minivans.
The Problem: The driver-side airbag in 2011-2013 Odysseys and 2009-2013 Pilots may have been assembled without some of the rivets that hold the airbag’s plastic cover in place. With the rivets missing, the airbag could improperly deploy in an accident, increasing the risk of injury to the driver.
The Fix: After receiving a notice in the mail from Honda, owners of affected vehicles should take their Odyssey or Pilot to a local dealer, where the service department will inspect the plastic cover for missing rivets, and perform any necessary repairs.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: Approximately 748,000 2009-2013 Pilots and 2011-2013 Odysseys are affected by this recall. Honda will begin notifying customers by mail in mid-February. Owners can also go to or call 1-800-999-1009 and select option 4 for more information. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue.
