The Problem: In 2012-2013 sedans, including Camry, Avalon, and Venza models, air conditioning condensers can leak, causing issues with both airbag control systems and power steering. Airbag problems can range anywhere from warning light illumination to full-on airbag deployment, while power steering can become disabled as a result of the leak. Toyota says the malfunction has resulted in two minor injuries and no accidents.
The Fix: Toyota dealers will apply a sealant to the air conditioning condenser housing seam, which is located above the airbag control module. Owners of the vehicles will be alerted to the issue by mail, which will instruct them to visit the dealer for a repair.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: The issue affects approximately 803,000 model year 2012-2013 Toyota Camry, Avalon, and Venza vehicles in the U.S. Internationally, the recall will affect about 885,000 vehicles.
