If there is any place that is the land of the pickup truck, it's Texas. The Lone Star state even gives out its own "Truck of Texas" awards every year – this year the 2013 Ram 1500 has swept away the competition, winning four awards, including the prestigious honor as the "Truck of Texas". Along with being named the official truck of Texas, the Ram Laramie Longhorn has also been awarded the "Luxury Truck of Texas", the Ram 1500 also won "Fullsize Pickup Truck of Texas", and the Ram brand was named "Truck Line of Texas".

The awards were announced this morning in San Antonio, Texas by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) after two days of testing. "Our members overwhelmingly chose the 2013 Ram 1500 as the Truck of Texas and the truck for Texans," said Michael Herzing, Texas Auto Writers Association President, in a statement.

According to Fred Diaz, the CEO of Ram Trucks and Chrysler de Mexico, Texas accounts for roughly 20 percent of all U.S. pickup truck sales. "Honoring the 2013 Ram 1500 with the all-around Truck of Texas award is important to our customers, our dealers and our Company," Diaz remarked.

The 2013 Ram 1500 starts at $23,585 including destination. There are a slew of different powertrains available: a 305-hp 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6, 310-hp 4.7-liter V-8, and a 395-hp 5.7-liter Hemi V-8. The V-6 paired with an all-new eight-speed automatic has been rated at a best-in-class 18/25 mpg city/highway.
