Racing Executives: Two Aston Martin Executives to Compete in GT4 Challenge

Earlier this year, Aston Martin announced the creation of a one-make race series called the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge. Later this month, Aston Martin's design director and engineering manager will partner to compete in the upcoming race at Oulton Park.

The Aston Martin GT4 Challenge provides Vantage GT4 and N24 owners with an opportunity to flog their cars on a track and compete for top honors. The series winners will be given a chance to test-drive race cars higher up in the Aston Martin food chain, including the GT2- and GT3-spec cars.

Several Aston Martin executives, including CEO Ulrich Bez, compete in racing series with Astons, but this will be design director Marek Reichman's first outing in a Vantage GT4. He and his design team have been involved in the design of all of Aston Martin's race cars, including the LMP1, but not the testing side.

"The design team has been closely involved in the design of all our race cars, from the works LMP1 prototype to the Vantage GT4," Reichman said, "but I've always longed to get even more closely involved and the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge provides the perfect introduction to GT4 racing for me."

Although this will be Reichman's first time behind the wheel of a Vantage GT4 in a race, his co-driver Chris Porritt, Aston's engineering manager, is an experienced GT4 racer.

"Most of my GT4 experience with Aston Martin has been at the Nürburgring, but Oulton Park is my home track and while I've raced my own cars there many times, I've never had the opportunity in an Aston Martin," Porritt said. "The standard of racing in the series so far has been extremely high so Marek and I will have our work cut out to keep up with the front runners."

It's not terribly common to automotive executives getting involved in the company's racing efforts, but it's always exciting when it happens. Porritt and Reichman take to the track at Oulton Park on August 21 as part of the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge series.
