The McLaren MP4-12C is one step closer to getting into dealerships with the announcement that the car will start at $229,000. That price is right on top of the Ferrari 458 Italia sticker, but doesn't include a destination charge or a gas guzzler tax that's yet to be determined. “When we embarked on the challenge of creating a new sports car company, we knew that coming to market with a vehicle that was ‘as good’ as the competition was not good enough. It was clear we needed a unique concept that offered clear advantages," said Antony Sheriff, Managing Director, McLaren Automotive Limited. “With the 12C’s technologically advanced MonoCell carbon-fiber chassis, highly efficient yet powerful 3.8-liter 592-horsepower powerplant, a dry weight of less than 2900 lbs., and every detail down to the switchgear bespoke to McLaren, we have achieved our performance and design objectives.  We are extremely proud to be able to offer the 12C at a price that has not been realized by a carbon fiber-based vehicle before.” So far, there are only 35 McLaren dealerships around the world with 10 of those located in North America. Those North American dealerships are in Beverly Hills, Chicago, Dallas, Greenwich, San Francisco, Tampa Bay, Toronto, and Miami. New to the list are Philadelphia and Newport Beach, placing three of the 10 North American dealerships in California. The 2012 McLaren MP4-12C will be available in late summer 2011 as a 2012 model. McLaren knows that options on an exotic car can quickly raise the out-the-door price and, to that end, a number of customization options will be offered. Performance options include a sports exhaust system, carbon ceramic brake discs, polished-finish calipers, and two lightweight forged wheel options. Carbon fiber accessories include mirror casings, engine bay panels and, of course, an engine cover. Now that you know that the 2012 McLaren MP4-12C will be priced about the same as a Ferrari 458 Italia, which would you rather have? Source: McLaren
