Porsche Lets Facebook Fans "Build" Custom 911

To celebrate reaching 5 million Facebook fans, Porsche has built a one-off 911 Carrera 4s that was styled by its social media friends, and has documented the process from start to finish on its Facebook page.

The making of the “5 Million Car” shows the build process, from painting the body and installing the projector headlights, to placing the automaker’s coat of arms badge on the hood. The unique Aqua Blue Metallic-finished Porsche speaks to its Facebook fans with a decal along its sides that reads “5M Porsche Fans,” while 20-inch white wheels offset the blue paint color. Other custom touches include an “Aerokit Cup” aero package, which adds a new front fascia with distinctive front spoiler lip in addition to a double-decker fixed rear wing. It’s not all visual though, as the Carrera 4S’s 3.8-liter flax-six puts out about 424 hp, up from the regular model’s 400 horses.

Now that the car’s been built, what will Porsche do with it? A lucky winner will get to pilot the one-of-a-kind 911 at the Porsche Experience Center in Silverstone; all they have to do is show Porsche how many Porsche fans are on their friends list, and the one with the most Porsche Facebook fans will win the trip to Silverstone.

This isn’t the first time Porsche has thanked its fans, as it crafted a special 2011 911 GT3 R Hybrid decorated with as many of their names as possible. Last year, Aston Martin pulled a similar stunt when it built a crowd-sourced DB9 to celebrate reaching 1 million Facebook fans.
