Pontiac Tunes G8, Solstice for 2008 SEMA Show

Pontiac G8 Gxp Street Concept

Although it's billed as GM's "excitement division," the concepts offered up by Pontiac at this year's SEMA show seem awfully mild. Still, if the idea of a 600-hp sports sedan or a car-based pickup excite you, then these concepts may manage to catch your fancy.

G8 GXP Street Concept We're still waiting to get our hands on the hot 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP, but Pontiac decided to add a bit more heat for the 2008 SEMA show. After removing the stock 415-hp, 6.2-liter V-8, a 7.4-liter LSX454 V-8 crate motor- good for 638 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque - was shoehorned under the domed hood and mated to the GXP's six-speed automatic. The GXP Street also features a lowered suspension, brake parts from a Cadillac STS-V, and custom bodywork and wheels inspired by Holden's HSV W427 concept.

G8 ST Concept El Camino fans will likely fawn over this, a 2010 Pontiac G8 ST sport truck with loads of custom trim. Apart from a custom paint job (sprayed in "Liquid Hot"), the G8 ST concept features a lowered ride height, 20-inch alloy wheels, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel, shift knob, and seating borrowed from a G8 GXP. Also added are a custom interior trim kit and a hard tonneau cover, which may be offered as OEM accessories once the G8 ST reaches dealers.

2009 Solstice GXP Coupe Concept Though we like the idea of adding power to the already-potent Solstice GXP, this concept seems a bit less inspired than the two G8 show cars. GM equipped the Solstice Coupe - a new model for 2009 - with the Stage 2 tuning kit, which ups the power from the turbocharged direct-injection 2.0-liter I-4 from 260 hp to 290 hp, but very little else. We're told the car uses a GM Performance Parts exhaust and suspension, but even the wheels - polished 18-inch alloys - are stock parts.
