Longtime Ford engineer Jost Capito will become director of Volkswagen Motorsport starting May 1, replacing current boss Kris Nissen. Capito is currently Ford director of global performance vehicles, responsible for the Special Vehicles Team (SVT) in the U.S. and Team RS in Europe.
Capito worked at BMW as an engine development engineer from 1984, and in 1989 joined Porsche to oversee the company's racing efforts. From 1996 he worked for the Sauber Petronas Engineering Formula 1 team, before joining Ford of Europe in 2001. Capito's credits working for Ford include development of World Rally Championship cars, as well as the launch of the European-market Fiesta ST, Focus ST, and Focus RS road cars.
In January 2009, Capito became Ford global performance vehicles director. He combined the development efforts of SVT and Team RS, and subsequently helped develop the F-150 SVT Raptor and the upcoming Ford Focus ST.
Ford has not yet named a successor for Capito.
