Paris Motor Show to Host Updated 2011 Chevrolet Captiva

Including the 2012 Aveo, Cruze five-door hatchback, and the Orlando crossover, Chevrolet is set to unveil four new models at this month's Paris Motor Show. The automaker recently announced the last addition to its quartet: the updated, not-for-the-States 2011 Captiva SUV.

First launched in 2006, the new Captiva is given a new look, which helps distinguish it from Theta-platform siblings and tie it to modern Chevrolet cues. The new CUV gains a blockier nose, complete with long, rectangular headlamps, and an oversized version of Chevy's trademark split grille. Designers also added new mirror covers and (faux) side fender vents, but kept their revisions ahead of the A-pillars.

Inside, the Captiva continues to seat either up to seven passengers, but revisions for 2011 include new seat fabrics, revised trim textures, and a new dual-cockpit dashboard, much like that used in the new Orlando crossover. Bluetooth phone connectivity is standard, as are an auxiliary audio input and a USB media input, while a touch-screen navigation system is optional.

A few mechanical updates are coupled with the 2011 Captiva's exterior enhancements. Buyers seeking gasoline-powered engines can once again spring for the 171-horsepower, 2.4-liter I-4, but a 258-horsepower, 3.0-liter V-6 is also available. Diesel offerings remain steady with a pair of 2.2-liter turbo-diesel I-4s, but power has been increased to 163 and 184 horsepower, respectively. Captivas will still be offered in both front- and all-wheel-drive forms, but the pair of five-speed transmissions have been replaced by a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic. Traction control, electronic stability control, and hill-start assist are all now standard features.

Chevrolet pledges the updates 2011 Captiva will arrive in European showrooms by the spring of 2011. Like both the Orlando and Cruze five-door, don't expect this bow-tie to arrive in the land of baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet.
