Paris 2012: Ford Fiesta Shows Off Its Fusion-Like Nose, EcoBoost Engines

Unlike Ford's other Paris Motor Show debuts -- we're looking at you, Ford Mondeo five-door and wagon, and EcoSport crossover -- the new Fiesta hatchback will be making its way to American shores. Expect the 2014 Ford Fiesta to arrive Stateside by early next spring.

The most obvious change is a new nose, which apes the gaping grille look of every new Ford -- most notably the 2013 Fusion. The new Ford Fiesta also gets a revised hood, improved interior materials, and new features like the MyKey parental-control system, and Active City Stop, which can apply the brakes to prevent an accident.

Also new for the 2014 model year is a super-efficient 1.0-liter inline-three EcoBoost engine. Already on offer in the European-market Focus, the new EcoBoost three will arrive in the U.S. and promises fuel economy that should easily surpass the 40 mpg benchmark. The engine produces either 98- or 123-hp, depending on model, in Europe. The current Fiesta's naturally aspirated 1.6-liter inline-four produces 120 hp and is EPA-rated for up to 29/40 mpg (city/highway).

Speaking of turbocharged engines, we're also told we can expect the Fiesta ST soon -- in Europe, at least. Like the larger Focus ST, the Fiesta ST gets sportier suspension components, strong brakes, a racy body kit, and options like Recaro bucket seats. Under the hood will be a 1.6-liter EcoBoost inline-four rated for about 178 hp. Ford still hasn't officially decided whether the Fiesta ST will be sold in the U.S., but we think the Blue Oval will indeed decide to bring the feisty hatch to our shores.

After the Paris festivities, Ford will show off the U.S.-market 2014 Fiesta at the Los Angeles auto show in November.
