Pagani C9 Prototype Wrecked Before Official Debut

We hear all sorts of stories about people wrecking exotic cars, and they usually involve an inexperienced owner. However, it seems a Pagani employee wrecked a multimillion-dollar C9 prototype in Germany well before its official debut.

Pagani’s Zonda replacement is said to use Mercedes-Benz’s 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12 -- specifically the unit out of the SL65 AMG Black Series -- tuned to around 700 horsepower. That’s a lot of power to handle, and it may have been too much for the driver, who wrecked the car on the B14 just outside of Stuttgart (not far from Mercedes-Benz’s testing facility).

The Pagani employee involved in the accident was reportedly a test driver, which makes the accident all the more incredible. The driver was reportedly above the speed limit when he lost control of the car and struck the center barrier at an extremely high speed.

It’s possible an incident like this could cost the employee his position. We hope not, but should that happen, we’re sure Pagani will have no shortage of volunteers looking to fill the opening. Head over to Autobild to see all the photos of the C9 wreckage.
