One Step Closer: Fisker Launches Online Karma Configurator

At the 2010 Paris Auto Show, the lusciously-styled and American-designed Fisker Karma looked to be rapidly nearing production. Today, Fisker appears to keep charging down that path by unveiling a configurator for the plug-in hybrid.

The Web applet contains some neat graphics, but options are slim: There are just eight exterior and seven interior colors. Which ones you can choose depends on which of the three trim levels you've selected - Eco Standard, Eco Sport, or Eco Chic. Standard has the least selection - two exterior, one interior color - while Chic offers the entire palette.

Standard and Chic boast animal-free execution, while the sport offers hand-wrapped leather. Fisker appears to be attempting to minimize the use of living tress, using sunken wood from Lake Michigan for trim in Standard, wood from California storms in Sport, and wood from California wildfires in Chic.

Other details:

  • The configurator says all Karmas will be covered by a 50 month/50,000 mile warranty.
  • Key standard features include six-way adjustable front seats with lumbar support, heated rear seats, a remote start that activates the HVAC system, and power-folding body-color side mirrors.
  • The Karma will emit a "signature sound" to indicate idle and acceleration to bystanders, which is "currently under development by sound technicians at an undisclosed research facility." So yeah, secret stuff, that.
