We’d instinctively reach for a pair of driving shoes if tossed the keys to a DB9, but those obsessed with the Aston Martin brand may prefer either of the shoes offered as part of the new Nike Kobe Bryant Aston Martin Edition footwear pack.
The exclusive lineup builds upon Bryant’s two signature Nike shoes, the Hyperdunk and Zoom. Aston claims both shoes were inspired by its vehicles, notably the DB9 and the One-77 supercar (we’re wondering if a Nike viral video, which showed Kobe leap over a speeding DB9, had anything to do with it), and will be produced in limited numbers.
The Hyperdunk Aston Martin DB9 Edition sneakers feature an Aston Martin logo in the tongue. The only other Aston-inspired cue we can spot is the quilted stitching on the shoes’ outer surface. All Aston Martin DB9 Hyperdunks will be silver and purple, colors reportedly exclusive to this particular model.
Looking more like a DBS Carbon Edition than a One-77, the Zoom Kobe V Aston Martin Edition shoes sport an all-black color scheme. Oddly enough, there’s no other visual connection to Aston Martin -- we can’t seem to spot the automaker’s winged logo anywhere.
Both shoes will be publically unveiled at the Staples Center -- Kobe’s home turf -- tomorrow morning. Like other products wearing the Aston name, expect a substantial price tag to accompany either design.
