Nissan has priced its new compact challenger, the 2013 Sentra. A base S model with a six-speed manual transmission starts at $16,770 -- $440 less than the price of the base 2012 Sentra with a manual. Nissan says the new Sentra is 5 percent lighter than the 2012 model, and improves fuel economy by 13 percent. The least expensive model with the CVT, the Sentra S CVT, starts at $18,040. The Sentra FE+ S model, which along with the FE+ SV model is rated at a slightly higher 40 mpg highway, is priced at $18,440. All other CVT-equipped models achieve 39 mpg on the highway, and 34 mpg combined. The Sentra SV starts at $18,750, while the fuel economy-focused FE+ SV model begins at $19,150. The Sentra SR starts at $19,650, and the range-topping SL model has a $20,540 base price. All models get a 130-hp 1.8-liter I-4 engine, and a choice between a six-speed manual or CVT transmission. The manual is only available on the base S model. The new Sentra also boasts a soft-touch instrument panel, along with available leather seating and Maple wood-tone trim. In addition, a range of available features are also offered including heated seats, RearView Monitor, a Bose audio system, and NissanConnectSM with navigation. The standard sound system is a four-speaker unit, though a six-speaker system with a 4.3-inch color display and a USB connection is available. At the top of the range is a premium eight-speaker system that Nissan says has an amplifier that's specifically tuned to the cloth or leather interior. A tilt/telescopic steering column, power windows with an auto up/down driver's window, and remote keyless entry are standard. Sixteen-inch alloy wheels are a $975 option on the bottom four trims and standard on SR and SL, the last of which can be had with a leather package for $1030. The navigation system is included in a $650 package on 2013 Sentra SV, SR, and SL models. Bluetooth is $350 on all but the top Sentra SL, while carpeted floor mats with a trunk mat costs $170 on every trim. The 2013 Nissan Sentra goes on sale October 16. All prices include destination of $780. Source: Nissan
