The 2013 Nissan Altima has earned a five-star rating (out of a possible five) on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). The last-generation 2012 Nissan Altima earned four stars on the same test.
Inside, the 2013 Altima has driver and front-passenger seat-mounted side-impact air bags, roof-mounted side-impact curtain air bags, as well as blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning systems.
The 2013 Nissan Altima is hardly the only midsize sedan to earn five stars on the NCAP test; the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, 2013 Hyundai Sonata, 2013 Kia Optima, 2013 Toyota Camry, and 2013 Volkswagen Passat have all earned five stars on the NHTSA's NCAP test. The 2013 Chrysler 200, and 2013 Dodge Avenger each earned four stars on the NCAP test. The all-new 2013 Ford Fusion and 2013 Honda Accord have not yet been rated by the NHTSA. The 2012 Ford Fusion earned four stars, while the 2012 Honda Accord had earned five stars.
The 2013 Nissan Altima sedan has not yet been rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which said in August that the new Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, and Toyota Camry are next on its list of vehicles to crash test.
