New York 2013: 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Teased

It may be known for busy streets and almost nonexistent parking, but New York City is somehow the world's largest market for the Land Rover Range Rover Sport. As a result, the British company will use this month's New York auto show to introduce the new 2014 Range Rover Sport.

As we saw in previous spy shots in snow and on the Nürburgring, the new Range Rover Sport will blend styling cues from the new Range Rover and the Evoque. Look for a faster roofline, floating LED foglights, trapezoidal front intakes, and an exaggerated front skid plate.

Given that the larger new Range Rover managed to cut nearly 700 pounds by switching to aluminum construction, we expect the 2014 Sport will also go on a diet. The current model weighs 5540 pounds. We expect the engines from the larger Range Rover will carry over -- a 340-hp, supercharged 3.0-liter V-6, and a 510-hp, supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 -- along with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Land Rover promises the 2014 Sport will be the company's "fastest, most responsive, and most agile" vehicle to date. "The all-new Range Rover Sport takes the model to another level," Land Rover global brand director John Edwards said in a statement. "It is Land Rover's most dynamic vehicle yet and showcases the best of British design, engineering and technological innovation."

Those unable to attend the reveal in New York can watch the presentation live at 7:30 p.m. on March 26, at www.newrangeroversport.com.
