New York 2013: 2014 Jaguar XJR Has 550-HP Supercharged V-8

Next week's New York auto show will herald the debut of the 2014 Jaguar XJR. The range-topping model uses a 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 engine good for 550 hp.

That high-performance engine is already employed by other Jaguar products, namely the XFR-S sedan and XKR-S coupe and convertible. The 2014 XJR will also receive commensurate chassis upgrades to cope with the enhanced power, likely consisting of firmer suspension and stronger brakes. Based on the included photo, however, it looks like the stately XJR will miss out on the garish flat-blue paint and tall rear wings employed by the XFR-S and XKR-S. A more aggressive body kit and unique wheels are standard.

The company says the XJR, "delivers supercar performance and assertive looks with the highest levels of luxury."

The remainder of the 2013 Jaguar XJ range (pictured below) offers buyers a choice between a 340-hp, 3.0-liter supercharged V-6; a 385-hp, 5.0-liter V-8; a 470-hp, 5.0-liter supercharged V-8; and a 510-hp, 5.0-liter supercharged V-8. The 2013 model year also saw the introduction of all-wheel-drive as an option on the V-6-powered XJ.

Pricing for the 2013 XJ starts at $74,075, including an $875 destination fee, and runs to $155,875 for the XJL Ultimate -- of which just 30 copies will be sold in the U.S. Stay tuned for more information on the 2014 Jaguar XJR when it debuts next Wednesday at the New York auto show.

OK. lets all say whats on our minds.  Please Jagauar get rid of the "Piano Back" C-Pillar.  It has never looked right.  It was a nice idea that should have been stopped.  It looks like a bad toupe from the rear 3/4 view.  Black is the only color to choose so you dont notice this strange applique...having said that, its a beautiful car.  Well Done.
