New York 2012: Pricing For 2013 Subaru BRZ Set at $26,245

There's no need for any further estimation or guessing: Subaru announced today at its press conference here in New York that the 2013 BRZ sports coupe will carry a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $26,245, including $750 in destination charges.

That price puts buyers behind the wheel of a 2013 BRZ Premium model equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. Opting for the six-speed automatic transmission adds roughly $1100, and brings the sticker price to $27,345.

Despite being a base trim level, BRZ Premium cars Bluetooth phone pairing, an eight-speaker audio system, navigation, a USB audio input, a HD radio tuner, XM Satellite radio -- and cloth-trimmed seating.

You're free to step up to the 2013 BRZ Limited, which adds leather and alcantara seating trim, automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition, heated front seats and side mirrors, fog lamps, and a rear spoiler.  Of course, you'll need to pony up about an extra $2000: Limited cars fitted with the manual gearbox start at $28,250 while automatic-equipped examples should start around $29,345.

Predictably, these prices are a bit more than the BRZ's kissing cousin, the 2013 Scion FR-S. FR-S coupes with a manual gearbox start at about $24,940 with destination, while adding an automatic brings that figure to $26,030. That makes the BRZ about $1300 more expensive, although it does lump in a few features - notably navigation and XM radio - that the Scion does without.

Subaru's press release says the car should be on sale "this spring," but officials tell us that BRZ models should start arriving at dealers nationwide by the end of April. Don't expect them to last long: roughly 6000 cars will be imported this year, and Subaru's already received nearly 1000 pre-orders to date.
