New York 2012: 2013 Ram 1500 Focuses on Fuel Economy

Ram is ready to make fuel economy the new trailer tow rating. The 2013 Ram 1500 is promising best-in-class fuel economy thanks to the Pentastar V-6 and a new eight-speed automatic transmission. Don’t worry, there’s still a Hemi V-8 that’ll tow as much as it did last year and that engine can now be paired with an eight-speed automatic.

There’s also an air suspension available on the 2013 Ram 1500, which should give the truck a more comfortable ride. The air suspension has five modes that range from off-road to a park setting that will lower the truck to make loading passengers and cargo less of a hassle. Ram is really trying to reinvent the half-ton pickup with innovations like air suspension and the Ram Box. If you need to commute in your truck during the week and also tow a big trailer on the weekend, these changes make your life much easier.

Inside the cab, there are nicer materials used everywhere and a new infotainment system will offer downloadable apps. Trucks with the eight-speed transmission get a unique rotary shifter positioned just to the right of the steering wheel. The exterior is also slightly refreshed, but Ram designers kept the changes to a minimum because current Ram owner feedback indicated there wasn’t a reason to completely overhaul the truck’s looks.
