New Video Hints At All-New 2013 Nissan Sentra

We were fairly sure that Nissan's global sedan concept released at the Beijing Auto Show, named the Sylphy, was going to preview a new model for the American market, but this new teaser video all but confirms it. The 2013 Nissan Sentra will look almost identical to the Sylphy concept that’s presently on the floor in China.

Predictably, the new Sentra – along with the Sylphy -- closely resembles the new 2013 Altima that debuted at the New York Auto Show. Its kinked tapered headlamps, protruded trapezoidal grille, and LED lights help Nissan’s C-segment offering bear a striking resemblance to its latest midsize sedan. On the inside, the cabin's materials and design are improved and are closer in line with the Altima.

The teaser video below previews the Sentra SR; assuming the SE-R model returns, this would be a mid-level trim grade. As we noted earlier, Nissan isn’t saying much about the 2013 Sentra at this point in time, leaving powertrain details – at least for the U.S. car -- to the imagination.

The Sylphy concept is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder that's mated to a next-generation version of the company's Xtronic continuously variable transmission. We wouldn’t be surprised if Nissan downsizes the Sentra's engine portfolio in the next-generation model. With the choice of a 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, the current Sentra lags in fuel economy numbers behind competitors with 1.8- and 1.6-liter motors.

We'll hear more about the Sentra when the model is revealed this summer. It marks the third of five models released by Nissan in 15 months, behind the Altima and Pathfinder.
