New Roush Stage 1 and Stage 2 Mustangs Due in April, Won't Be Supercharged

Shelby’s not the only Ford tuner to start working on the new 2011 Mustang GT. Roush Performance is also preparing a new range of Roush Mustangs, although we’ll have to wait a little while to see them.

We’ll see the first 2011 Roush Mustang in April, shortly after the first 2011 Mustang GT -- equipped with that new 5.0-liter V-8 -- rolls off Ford’s assembly lines in Flat Rock, Michigan. We’ll actually see two new Mustangs -- a Stage 1 and Stage 2 -- unveiled at this time. Stage 1 cars will include a new body kit and a few appearance upgrades, while the Stage 2 will throw in suspension modifications, but no power increase.

“The 2011 Roush Stage 1 and Stage 2 Mustangs will represent an incredible value by blending appearance and handling with an amazing base Ford engine package,” said Jack Roush. “I expect that the 2011 Stage 1 and Stage 2 ROUSH Mustangs could come close to matching the performance of some Roushcharged Mustangs we have offered in prior model years, which will make them extremely exciting to drive and at a reasonable starting price point.”

If big power is what you’re holding out for, you’ll have to wait a few more months until late summer when higher-spec models, including the 427R, become available. For now, all Roush will say is that it's hard at work on adapting the Roushcharger supercharger to the new 5.0 engine and expect healthy gains once all the details are worked out.

“We have a history of increasing the horsepower on each model year 427R Mustang, and that should continue with the 2011 as well,” Roush said. “However, exactly what the horsepower and torque numbers will be is too early to tell at this point, as the engineering teams are still working through a myriad of details on the new five-liter engine.”

And every year Rousch, FMC, and Shelby sit idly by and do nothing to improve traction. What a waste of horsepower!!!
