2009 Mini E

We knew that the new 2009 Mini E electric car will be marketed to residents of New York City and Los Angeles, but it may well be offered to residents of London, England, as well.

According to Mini UK's boss, Andy Hearn, the bulk of the 500 electric Minis that are being produced will be sold in the United States, but there are plans to sell a select number in other major cities - especially London. The Mini E will make its debut at next month's LA show. It ill run on a lithium-ion battery and is capable of going from zero to 60 in under 8.5 seconds. BMW insiders have placed its "real-world" range at around 100 miles and say that the car can be fully recharged in just two and a half hours using an in-home charger. Mini will be leasing the Mini E, rather than selling it. The automaker plans to do so in order to get better feedback from drivers to improve the development of future electric vehicles. Source:
