New Lamborghini Aventador Models On the Way, Bentley and Lambo SUVs Might be on Hold

Lamborghini may be planning on unleashing two new versions of its flagship Aventador soon, but parent company Volkswagen is reportedly debating whether the company should table the Urus and the related Bentley EXP 9 F luxury SUVs due to economic issues in Europe.

As a result of production cuts and slowing auto sales in Europe, the launch schedule of the Lamborghini Urus and Bentley EXP 9 F may change, reports Reuters. Parent company Volkswagen's European sales have been mostly flat this year, not leaving much funding for expensive pet projects like the development of Bentley and Lamborghini SUVs. Because of this, the production of the EXP 9 F and Urus could be delayed until the market improves.

Even if the Bentley and Lambo SUVs get delayed, potential buyers will still have plenty of other comparable vehicles to choose from; the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8-based Maserati Levante (formerly known as the Kubang) and the next-gen Land Rover Range Rover Sport are set to drop next year, the Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG will soon be available, and the Porsche Cayenne continues to be the brand's best-seller.

Lamborghini’s SUV might be delayed, but Sant'Agata is still hard at work on two new Aventador variants, reports Car. The Lamborghini Aventador Roadster is expected to debut sometime this fall, likely at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Unlike the Murciélago and Diablo before it, the Aventador Roadster will have a retractable hard top – similar to the Ferrari 458 Spider and McLaren MP4-12C Spider – a first for Lamborghini's V-12-powered supercars.

That’s not all Lamborghini has up its sleeve; rumor has it a four-seat Aventador GT may debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 2013. The Aventador GT would potentially have an extended wheelbase with two small seats in back. The Aventador GT could also have shortened scissor doors up front and two small suicide doors for the rear jump seats. Considering the large mid-mounted 6.5-liter V-12, we're a bit skeptical as to how much space the car will offer in back. That said the Aventador GT – for now – remains nothing more than a rumor.

The decision regarding the Bentley and Lamborghini SUVs will come next month, likely around the same time the Lamborghini Aventador Roadster is unveiled to the press. The Aventador GT Concept may drop in March 2013.
