Though the Suzuki Swift is currently forbidden fruit, we hear Suzuki is considering shipping the next-generation, 2011 Swift to the United States.

If you've been following our recent posts, you already know about the Swift's styling updates. A hot seller in Europe and Japan, Suzuki has been mulling plans to bring its super small car to the States. Today, Suzuki's smallest offering in the U.S. is the SX4. Though it looks similar to the model it will replace, eagle-eyed Suzuki aficionados will notice revised headlights and taillights, a slightly longer and wider body, and an interior that resembles the Kizashi's. A new 92-horsepower 1.2-liter gas engine replaces the current model's 1.3-liter engine, supplemented by a 73-horsepower 1.3-liter diesel engine. The largest gains are in fuel economy, which will improve to 47 and 56 mpg, respectively, for European markets.

As of now, the one area of North America where you can buy the Euro-spec Swift is Mexico, as the Canadian Swift + is a rebadged Chevrolet Aveo. Although plans still aren't confirmed, let's just say we wouldn't be opposed to seeing the Swift in the U.S.
