National Corvette Museum Plans to Add Motorsports Park Across the Road

Construction hasn't started yet, but the National Corvette Museum has its sights set on building a full motorsport complex across the I-65 in Kentucky. The complex will feature two full road courses, a karting track, a 10-acre autocross track, skidpad area, and a quarter-mile drag strip.

Vette enthusiasts know the NCM is located right across from the Corvette production facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky, but sitting on the other side of the interstate is 300 acres of prime, open real estate where the Motorsports Park would reside. The combined road circuits are modeled after the Le Mans course and split into a west and east section. From the aerial view, we can see the east track features a carousel-like corner modeled after the Nürburgring’s very own Karussell turn. At the very bottom of the long straightaway is a speed-scrubbing chicane that takes after the Bus Stop from Watkins Glen. The facilities will be fully compliant with all FIA and SCCA specifications in the anticipation of hosting officially sanctioned events.

The Alain Prost karting course is located at Le Mans but the Kentucky version can be found much closer. If needed, the track can be shortened to a half-mile.

The NCM Motorsports Park is estimated to cost $35 million to construct, not including the price for a tunnel and bridge system designed to link the complex with the factory and museum across the freeway. Unfortunately, until the Corvette Museum comes up with the funding, all we can do is sit and stare at what could be the premier racing facility in all of the Bluegrass State.
