Name That Paris Motor Show Star - Round Two

The Paris Motor Show is only held every other year -- so in celebration of the 2010 show starting later this week, we've round up some of our favorite Parisian debuts from years past. Think you can identify the car above? Send us your best guess via the comments section below. We'll reveal the answer tomorrow, along with a new car, prior to the show's opening on September 30.

Did You Name Yesterday's Tasty Parisian Treat?

Fèlicitations to those who recognized yesterday's star as the Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Speedster from the 1992 Paris Motor Show -- coincidentally, the car that preceded the new 911 Speedster that will debut in Paris this year.

In 1989, Porsche debuted a 911 Speedster model meant to boost sales of the brand's flagship model, designed as a takeoff of the 356-based 1953 Speedster. Porsche only sold a limited number, but the model was in such hot demand that the German sports car maker introduced a second Speedster model at the 1992 Paris show before the 964-type 911 went out of production in 1993.

Unlike the 1989 Speedster, and the recently introduced Speedster successor, the 1993 Speedster offered buyers a choice of engine options. The base car came with the then-familiar 3.6-liter flat six that produced 250 horsepower. Buyers could also order an uplevel Speedster with the turbocharged 3.6-liter from the 911 Turbo introduced in 1990; that engine produced 360 horsepower and propelled the Speedster from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 174 mph -- not bad for 1993.

Once again, the 911 Speedster was a limited production affair. In total, Porsche sold 945 Speedsters, 15 of which were specially commissioned and used the Turbo's wider body style.
