Mugen Gives the Honda CR-Z 174 HP, Loud Body Kit

There is little disagreement that the Honda CR-Z could use more power and aesthetic panache. Japanese tuner Mugen has taken to the hybrid hatchback, upping the net output to 174 hp, and adding a more outlandish body kit to create the Honda CR-Z Mugen RZ.

Mugen adds a total of 52 hp to the CR-Z's powertrain by way of a supercharger and a cat-back exhaust system with titanium dual finishers. In addition to the horsepower boost, the CR-Z Mugen RZ also nets an additional 63 lb-ft of torque (net torque rises to 193 lb-ft). Chassis upgrades include revised suspension and brakes – Mugen adds a five-stage adjustable suspension setup, and 11.8-inch (up from 10.3) front brake rotors with reinforced calipers and pads.

Aesthetically the CR-Z Mugen RZ is easily noticed thanks to its adjustable rear wing, azure blue metallic paint job, and revised front grille. To help aid aerodynamics, Mugen added an adjustable front under spoiler with LED running lights, extended side skirts, and a rear under spoiler with integrated diffuser. 17-inch forged alloy wheels are wrapped in 205/45R17 Dunlop Direzza Z II performance rubber.

The black and blue theme from the exterior continues inside, with blue-and-black-colored seats and a blue-stitched steering wheel. The shift knob for the six-speed manual has been swapped out for a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic unit, and a boost meter is also added for good measure. Things are capped out with a serial number plate from Mugen.

Unsurprisingly, the Honda CR-Z Mugen RZ will only be available to Japanese customers at a price of 4,494,000 Yen ($57,380). That's almost twice the JPY 2,365,000 ($30,197) starting price of the Japanese-market CR-Z.
