Japanese tuning company Mugen has expressed interest in putting its mark on the upcoming Honda CR-Z. Mugen has made some sort of modification for just about every vehicle Honda offers, including the CR-V and Odyssey. So it'sno surprise the company will likely be modifying the CR-Z.
Hiroki Toyoda, European vice president for Mugen, has said that the electrically driven powertrain would offer new tuning potential. As there are more hybrid vehicles being offered, the demand for faster variants is going to increase as well. The electric motor would be used as somewhat of a turbocharger to aid in low-end torque while the gasoline engine would then take over for the high end of the power band.
Mugen has an excellent relationship with Honda, which culminated in the Mugen Civic Si coming right from Honda's own factory. The tuning company produces performance modifications such as exhausts, suspension, and air intake components. In addition it makes wheels, body components, and other dress-up accessories.
The Mugen Civic Si offered stateside was a bit of a disappointment to some people as it didn't offer much extra in the performance department. We showed you the Civic Type R Mugen last week, so we know what is possible from the tuning powerhouse. If the Mugen CR-Z does make it to these shores, hopefully it will be tuned to its fullest potential.
