More Lamborghini SUV Speculation Emerges Prior To Beijing Debut

It’s a poorly-kept secret that Lamborghini intends to reveal a new sport utility model at the forthcoming Beijing Motor Show, but several Web sites claim the rendering shown here – apparently found in an Italian magazine – is a dead ringer for the actual thing, which could wear the Urus name. The truth remains to be seen, but sources tell us it’s a fairly accurate representation of the forthcoming Lambo SUV. The Urus will be Lamborghini’s first SUV since the LM002, which was a brusque, Hummer-esque machine sold from 1986 to 1993. That car featured a 5.2-liter V-12 engine from the Lamborghini Countach, and was Lamborghini's first all-wheel-drive car. In comparison, the Urus is almost demure. The successor to the so-called Rambo Lambo will share its platform with the Porsche Cayenne and next-generation Audi Q7, but boast its own powertrain. Lamborghini’s ute will reportedly be powered by a 5.2-liter V-10 shared with the Gallardo LP570-4, but modified slightly to produce 584 horsepower. The automaker is reportedly working on a hybrid version that could produce a collective 600 horses, but both models will likely direct power to all four wheels. If this rendering is fairly accurate, the Urus certainly looks like a Lamborghini. The front clip blurs cues from the Estoque sedan concept and the present Aventador supercar. Some reports suggest the finished vehicle will be offered in a three-door form, but the renderings show a five-door model. We’d wager on the latter, as it would provide versatility not found in any other Lamborghini product range. We’ll know more for sure in short time: Lamborghini will publically show the Urus – if that is its real name – at the Beijing show’s press days, which run from April 23 through the 24th.
