The Internet is far from watertight, so we’re not too surprised photos of the new 2009 Audi TT RS leaked onto the World Wide Web ahead of the car’s debut. In light of the embargo breach, Audi went forth and officially released these three images, although it’s still holding the technical data close to its heart.
These pictures finally allow us to ogle the hottest TT yet in all its glory. In both coupe and roadster form, we’d perhaps describe the TT RS’ exterior as a TTS cranked up a notch. Many of the TTS’ unique identifiers - the LED running lamps, aggressive side sills, and aluminum-capped mirrors - are still present, but a few tweaks give some clue to the increased power (“more than 300 hp,” says Audi) underhood.
For starters, there’s the gigantic rear wing, which is fixed to the rear deck unlike the pop-up spoiler found on lesser TTs. There’s plenty of influence from the new R8 V10, including a blacked-out rear diffuser with oval exhaust tips, and gigantic air intakes grafted onto the front fascia. Both of these wild scoops flank a revised form of Audi’s corporate grille – as we predicted, the grille is now a one-section unit with a mesh insert. We expect to know more on the Audi TT RS by March 3, when it will officially be unveiled at the 2009 Geneva motor show.
