Mini Upgrades John Cooper Works Package, Adds Hampton Special Edition

Very few companies offer the extensive line of personalization products available on Mini’s Web site and through its dealer network. Slightly less well known are the special edition cars Mini releases just about every year. For 2011, the Clubman Hampton Edition is being offered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1961 Morris Mini Traveler. If performance is more your thing, John Cooper Works  packages will make your Mini even more ferocious.

The Hampton name references a Southwest London suburb which according to Wikipedia is famous for being briefly mentioned in War of the Worlds and a stunning water treatment plant. Every Hampton Edition Clubman will come in several colors; Reef Blue which was developed exclusively for the edition as well as Pepper White, midnight Black and Eclipse Grey.

Seventeen-inch wheels unique to the Hampton are available in either silver or black with a contrasting red stripe. Xenon headlamps have black housings and Hampton lettering and badges are found splashed about the outside of the car.

On the inside, black lounge leather is set off with red trim and contrasting orange stitching. The headliner and gauges and anthracite and the center mounted gauge surround is done in flat red which matches the stripe on the wheels.

For Mini buyers more concerned more with performance than seat stitching, Mini has upgraded and expanded the John Cooper Works line of accessories. Buyers of normally aspirated Cooper models can now get and works package that includes: an aero kit, 17-inch wheels, Dynamic Traction Control and Electronic Differential Lock Control. A John Cooper Works steering wheel, shift knob and handbrake boot round out the package.

For turbocharged S models, the Works kit has been upgraded to 195 horsepower (previously 189 horsepower) and now produces 199 pound-feet of torque during overboost. The kit also includes a rear exhaust section, specific to each model, which optimizes sound.

As always, Mini offers a complete line of modification products that can be installed at your local dealership. Everything from Union Jack door handles to big brake kits are available. If you haven’t checked out their website, set aside a good 45 minutes and start virtual modding.
