Among the new many special edition Mini models unveiled at the 2009 Mini United Festival was this John Cooper Works World Championship 50 (WC50) Edition. The WC50 commemorates Mini's 50th birthday, as well as the 50th anniversary of sports car constructor John Cooper's first Formula One World Championship title.

The WC50 is based on the 211-hp turbocharged Mini John Cooper Works. To set it apart from the rest, it features some stylish exterior enhancements, such as the "Connaught" green paint. The color is a tribute to the famous color of British race cars of the 1950s and 60s. The look is complemented with a roof and hood stripes done in "Pepper" white. John Cooper's son John Michael Cooper's signature appears on one of the stripes as well as on a plaque on the front fascia. The bi-xenon headlights and driving lights are both set in black housings. The wheels are black cross spoke John Cooper Works Challenge wheels, and the hood scoop, rear diffuser, mirror caps, and tailgate handle are done in carbon fiber.

Inside the WC50, the racing theme continues with "Carbon" black overlaid by subtle red touches. The leather seats are black with red piping. The knee-rolls and armrests are also red, and there is red stitching on the floor mats, gearshift, and handbrake lever. The sports steering wheel has an Alcantara rim, and the door grips are also finished in carbon fiber.

A limited run of just 250 of the special edition Minis will be available with pricing to be announced on June 22. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that Mini will send any WC50s across the pond, making this cool Cooper for European consumption only.
