When the refreshed 2010 Mercedes-Benz S-class launches, it will be the first to offer an AMG sports package option. Mercedes will also offer the package on the sedan's platform mate, the CL-class.
Similar to the package announced for the 2010 E-class, it will include a smattering of enhancements to give the two models a sportier appearance. The front air intakes grow larger, more aggressive side skirts are fitted to the sides, and the back bumper gets a black insert and integrated rectangular stainless steel trim over the tailpipes. Five-spoke 19-inch wheels are standard and twin-spoke 20-inch wheels are optional. Behind the wheels lie silver painted brake calipers with Mercedes-Benz lettering and perforated brake discs.
Interior enhancements are also part of the package. A wood/leather steering wheel in black ash complements the wood trim throughout the cabin. The driver gets brushed stainless steel pedals with rubber studs. A set of velour floor mats with AMG lettering round out the interior improvements.
The AMG sports package will be available for all S-class models as well as the CL550 4Matic. The package will be available for European customers when their new S-class launches in June. Meanwhile, U.S. customers will have to wait until the August when the car launches in North America.
