European buyers who snap up one of the new Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class sedans in its first year on sale can opt for a special package called Edition 1. Meant to celebrate the car's first twelve months on the market, the CLA-Class Edition 1 wears unique paint and upholstery, and even gets some parts from the AMG bin.
The CLA-Class Edition 1 is available in mountain gray, cosmos black, night black, cirrus white, or designo polar silver magno paint. The cars wear side skirts, a front splitter, and a diffuser from AMG, and the black multi-spoke wheels also come from Mercedes' AMG division. The car's front grille is tinted black and has chrome inserts.
In contrast with the somewhat subdued exterior treatment, the interior flashes its Edition 1 status brightly thanks to bright yellow stitched lines on the black leather seats. The dashboard and upper door panels also have black leather with yellow stitching. Aluminum trim pieces and a three-spoke Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel complete the cabin transformation. Other standard equipment includes xenon headlights and a lower sports suspension.
In Europe, Mercedes will offer the Edition 1 treatment on any version of the new CLA-Class, from the 122-hp CLA180 through the 211-hp CLA250. Pricing in Germany ranges from €35,403 (about $47,433) to €44,625 ($59,788). An Edition 1 model won't be offered in the U.S.
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, however, will be offered Stateside starting this September. Pricing will start at $29,900 before destination charges. American buyers can intially opt only for the CLA250, which has a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine with 208 hp and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, but Mercedes has confirmed that there will be a hotter CLA45 AMG variant coming later.
