The Mazda MX-5 is a green-machine on the other side of the Atlantic. Well, not a hybrid version of the little roadster, but the green light was given to the special-edition, German-market MX-5 Karai, which will sport an eye-catching new color, along with sportier equipment and a special gift to go along with the green-hued theme.
The Karai -- Japanese word for ‘sharp’ -- stands out thanks to its striking green metallic paint. The black power retractable hardtop will help to offset the green gleam, along with a black front grille, foglamp surrounds, a black rocker-sill stripe, and 17-inch black wheels. The interior will be dressed in black and silver, featuring Recaro sports seats.
Unfortunately, no Incredible Hulk power is added to its engine. The 2.0-liter engine remains the same and will crank out the usual 160 hp, but a sport package is available which includes sport mufflers and a lowering kit, while a convenience package allows the tech-savvy to enjoy an iPod and USB adapter.
To help the lucky buyer look just as sharp as their drop top, Mazda is throwing in a special gift to buyers to include a special edition watch with the same green, black, and silver color scheme as the green apple roadster.
The Karai will appear in all its verdant glory in early August for € 30,000, which equals approximately $43,000 at the current exchange rate. But if you’re interested, you’d better act fast, as this model is limited to only 165 units.
