Multiple recalls involving Ram HD trucks have been issued by Chrysler involving a total of 1.2 million trucks from 2003-2012. The majority of trucks many not actually need repair, but are being asked to brought in for inspection. The first recall involves 842,400 2003-2008 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks to identify approximately 116,000 models that have potentially misaligned tie-rod assemblies. The other campaigns are for 294,000 2008-2012 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks, 2008 Ram 1500 Mega Cabs, and 43,500 Ram 4500 and 5500 4x4 chassis cabs.
Chrysler has acknowledged six accidents and two injuries involving 2008-2012 2500 and 3500 trucks and one additional accident involving the other models subject to the recall. Owners will be notified by mail in December if their vehicle is affected, and repairs could begin as soon as January. Owners of 4500 and 5500 models should bring their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for inspection and realignment, as replacement parts for those models may not be available until later in 2014.
Of the vehicles affected by the recall, 968,000 are in the U.S. 157,000 are in Canada, 37,100 are in Mexico, and 18,000 are located outside of the NAFTA region. Owners seeking more information about the recall are encouraged to call 800-853-1403.
