A faster and lighter version of Maserati's GranTurismo coupe, called the MC Stradale, will debut at this year's Paris Motor Show.
The MC Stradale's bodywork alone leaves no doubt that this is no ordinary GranTurismo coupe. With "razor-sharp handling," Maserati says the MC Stradale will also break the 300 km/h barrier, or about 186 mph.
The automaker currently claims the regular GranTurismo coupe -- with a 405-horsepower 4.2-liter V-8 -- can reach a top speed of 177 mph. The GranTurismo S, with a 4.7-liter V-8 making 433 horsepower, hits 183 mph and 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds.
The GranTurismo MC Stradale takes things to a new level with a 450-horsepower engine and new styling bits that produce more downforce. Not a huge power jump, but Maserati says the car won't use more fuel than the other GranTurismo coupes but will be more agile and still have a decent ride. Upgraded brakes will likely be part of the package as well.
As for the body kit, some might call it over the top yet others might find it just right. Black accents below the bold front grille eye-catching while a larger rear diffuser spices up the rear view. The darkened twin five-spoke wheels are simple but probably much lighter than the wheels found on lesser GranTurismos. Dark trim around the windows replaces the silver trim found on other models and a lip spoiler has been added to the trunk lid.
The special GranTurismo goes on sale in the first quarter of 2011. Stay with Motor Trend for more on this Maserati and other Paris Motor Show news.
