It’s hard to call the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 slow, but after seeing Lingenfelter’s modified ZR1, the stock form looks downright lethargic.
In its inaugural run down a quarter-mile, the modified ZR1 managed to lay down three runs in the 9-second range. According to the tuner, the best pass was made in 9.813 seconds, blasting through the finish at 145.74 mph.
The secret lies, it seems, with some subtle modifications of the already potent supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 V-8. Lingenfelter added modified supercharger and harmonic balancer pulleys, a custom air intake, a ported stock throttle body, cast aluminum supercharger intakes, and a revised intercooler, with a heat exchanger that’s twice the size of the stock unit. Exhaust manifolds were left stock, although the factory catbacks are given a “mild-to-wild” switch, allowing the driver to bypass the mufflers.
Although beefy Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial tires helped the Corvette achieve these stunning pass times, the engine modifications alone help the car throw down 739 hp and 740 lb.-ft. of torque. Sound impressive? It is, considering both figures are measured at the rear wheels.
