Smart is launching a special edition of the ForTwo in Europe, and a slightly tweaked version of the car will make its way to the U.S. later this year. Called the Edition Iceshine, the two-door Smart wears unique paint and interior components meant to help it stand out from normal models.
The Iceshine treatment begins with crystal white body panels, white wheels, and white paint for the Tridion safety cage (normally, the Tridion cage can only be painted black or silver). On the inside, Iceshine models receive black leather seats that have white cross-stitching and a white fabric backrest. The European model (pictured) also will be offered in a unique azure blue color, but only the white Smart Iceshine will be imported into our market.
Standard equipment on the cars includes LED running lights, power steering, and heated seats. The only powertrain offered in our market is a 1.0-liter inline-three-cylinder engine, which is paired with a and five-speed automated-manual transmission.
Smart plans to build just 1800 examples of the ForTwo Iceshine, of which 300 will be sold in the U.S. starting this fall. That seems like a large number for a special edition car, given that Smart sold only 2652 cars in the U.S. last year.
Both coupe and convertible versions of the ForTwo Iceshine will be produced. Smart will announce pricing closer to the on-sale date.
