The topic of “the best automobile ever made” has led to countless discussions, debates, forums, and perhaps even fisticuffs, but it’s also led to a new Web-based contest that could have you scoping out this year's Frankfurt Motor Show in person.
Legends on Wheels, launched in partnership with both Automotive News Europe and MSX International, allows users to pick their favorite car from a handful of nominees, spanning from before 1900 through the future (i.e. concepts). Visitors can select one car from each decade, and then select which model in particular truly deserves the Legend on Wheels title. There’s a perk -- doing so also enters your name in a drawing, which offers a paid trip to the Frankfurt Motor Show as its grand prize.
Seeing as the entire event is sponsored by both ANE and has ties to the Frankfurt show, it’s not too surprising to see the list of nominees is predominantly European. That said, we’re taken aback by some of the vehicles included on the list. The Suzuki LJ80? The Smart ForTwo? Honda’s Puyo concept? Is Volkswagen’s Phaeton truly worthy of the “legend” title?
Luckily, you can voice your own opinion in the matter. Head over to www.legendsonwheels.com, and register your vote by September 14.
